Padel serve and volley tip: Move forward with purpose

Padel Serve And Volley Tip: Serve, then move forward with purpose
The padel serve is not usually a finishing shot. Its job is to start the point well and help your pair establish the net together.
The simple cue
Use a controlled serve, recover your balance and move forward immediately. Arrive ready to split-step as the returner makes contact.
Three steps to practise
- Serve at three-quarter pace and aim for a reliable target.
- Follow the serve to a balanced net position instead of stopping in the transition zone.
- Repeat with a partner who moves forward in line with you.
The common mistake
Do not sprint so quickly that you arrive upright or off balance. The goal is to be ready for the first volley, not simply close to the net.
Take it into match play
Judge the serve by the quality of your next ball. A slightly slower serve that lets you make a composed first volley is often more valuable than extra pace.
Padel Serve And Volley Tip: what good practice looks like
Keep the first repetitions calm enough to notice balance, contact and recovery. Increase the pressure only while the movement remains repeatable. Quality practice gives you useful feedback: you should be able to explain what changed, why the ball behaved differently and which cue you will use again. Finish with a short conditioned game so the skill has to survive a real decision rather than a predictable feed.
